This is what I want my clients to feel about their wedding day hair and makeup. This is the feeling I want my brides to have every time they look back on wedding photos.
At the core of my career as a professional hair and makeup artist, I want my clients to feel empowered, feel encouraged, and feel like themselves when they look in the mirror!!! Although instagram influencers and current trends preach contouring, or “more foundation”, or something that will “pop in photos”, you’ll find my approach to hair and makeup is a lot more minimal. My work and technique stems from my experience working in television, red carpet premieres, commercials, and with high definition cameras. That variety has really allowed me to create bridal looks that are not only seamless in person, but also in photography.
The biggest misconception I come across is that you need MORE makeup so it will show up in photos. I actually disagree! While there is some truth to this, I think different photographers approach their work in many different ways, and it truly depends on things like creative choices with editing style, and the lighting at different points during the wedding day. Photographers who have a more moody, darker style of editing will actually make your makeup look darker and bolder in photos.
I want my clients to feel beautiful and confident in the look that THEY truly want. I then take their inspiration and their vision and bring it to life in a way that will be seamless on camera, last all day, and be timeless for years to come.
A suggestion to my brides is to try to schedule the hair and makeup consultation/trial appointment right before their engagement shoot or a time they’ll have professional photography. This is a great way to see your hair and makeup look on camera before the wedding day!
Ways that you can prepare are to keep your hair healthy and take great care of your skin!! Starting with professional facials and/or creating a skincare routine for up until the wedding will be the perfect base for makeup. Getting your hair strong and healthy is what will really allow your bridal hairstyle to be effortless.
Why should you hire professionals for your wedding day? Each vendor will enhance something about the other. An incredible photographer will showcase florals in a different light, allow your dress to have its moment, and capture your hair and makeup look in a beautiful way. An incredible hair and makeup artist will know what products to use to allow your beauty to shine through in all types of lighting, in your wedding photos, and will be less editing for your photographer. An incredible wedding planner will be thoughtful about the day’s plan and timing and that will ease the rest of the vendors. You can see how each one compliments the other and each one allows your dream day to be showcased beautifully.
